DR. TIMOTHY ROSS REED
PhD History

About me:
I am a United States and Transportation historian. Specifically I focus on the development and establishment of motor highways during the early twentieth century. I argue that this process was dependent on an existing framework of roads that had been in place at least since the first half of the nineteenth century. I have researched certain Texas highways in the past not because their development from the late nineteenth through the early twentieth centuries was uncommon, but because of the utility they provided for decades prior. There are roads and highways with a similar long history across the United States, which I intend to research further. With this research, it will be revealed how these roads directly or indirectly led to the development of other American roads.
I have experience leading history classes at both UT Arlington and TCU, and assisting with geography courses as well. In addition to teaching, an immediate goal of mine is to combine historical and geographical methodologies in an upcoming manuscript of my first monograph.
